Membership Level change

You have selected the Catholic Defection membership level.

Registration signifies that you no longer consider yourself to be a member of the Roman Catholic Church. It does not signify your membership into any other philosophical perspective. It represents a denial of decisions about your adult beliefs that parents signed you up to as a child. It has no impact on canon law but is a statement of intent that if canon law permitted defection you would avail of it.

Although the deluded maniacs will still count me as one of theirs, I know in my heart that this medieval nonsense is purely used for control and fear. Only when we leave superstition like this behind us can we full evolve into the humans we were meant to be

My thoughts exactly. Thank you for putting it so succinctly.

I was baptised as an adult in the mid/late 70’s. Through the years I realised that this was a mistake. My religious beliefs have changed completely and on top of that all that has happened in the church is against everything I hold dear and believe in. I wrote to the Bishop some years back but as you mentioned I was to late to move away from the church.

Nothing. Due to the change in Canon Law, unfortunately this web site can only allow for ‘virtual defections’. You’ll also find some advice on how to write to your Bishop if you’re interested in real defections or excommunications.

But, what does _this_ website do with a person’s personal details? Presumably the data is stored in a database. What happens then? It just sits there forever for no reason? It’s deleted? It’s sold as a contact list to spammers? Some explanation/transparency please.

Hi, This site is a way to publicly renounce their childhood baptism. This website does use databases and the information is kept their so that people can log in and change their details if required. We do not sell or otherwise use this information for any purpose and anyone can request their information to be removed if they email me (admin@atheist.ie) using the same email that was used to set up their account. Because of Tuam. The comprehensive abuse, at every level in our Society, schools, hospitals, care homes, orphanages…..by the church and with the compliance of the state at every step, needs to be exposed in its intirety for the horror that it was. Shame on us all

It has always been my wish to be excommunicated, like my father. I was on radio many years ago explaining ,A BORN AGAIN ATHEIST” and I got many a laugh.

How did your father get excommunicated ? I’ve notified my parish priest that I committed apostasy. I included evidence and references to Canon Law but I received no reply.

I will not be counted as a member of an institution responsible for the systemic abuse of women and children.

I don’t believe in God and apart from the sense of community it can create I don’t like organized religion.

38 year old recovering from religious abuse. I watched my mother and father have child after child they did not have the mental or emotional capacity to raise, and then watched as four out of six of us developed chronic debilitating illness from the constant violence in our home. Guess who else was watching. After almost 40 years of marriage my elderly, mentally and physically destroyed parents divorced. You can’t understand what they went through to get this divorce. My mom doesn’t know what a “need” is. Is this all to blame on the church? My parents were / are still extraordinarily devout. I wish only that they would have had the life they deserved. And now I’m going to prepare for the psychic attacks … they come more often now. I didn’t understand that I was still registered w/ the organization. It’s my NAME.
